Guest Post - Carol James

We all have certain movies or TV shows we like to watch over and over again. One I always enjoy (although no matter how many times I watch it, the plot remains the same, and the ending never changes) is Miss Congeniality. The story is uncomplicated and entertaining.

When the pageant contestants are asked about their platforms, they offer a variety of responses, but one desire is repeated throughoutā€¦ As many times as Iā€™ve watched the movie, I still chuckle, when Sandra Bullockā€™s character presents her ā€œnon-pageant-ishā€ platform, and then, when the confused audience fails to applaud, she tacks on her desire for ā€œWorld Peaceā€ to receive audience approval.

I may laugh, but isnā€™t this desire for peace the craving deep within the heart of each person? Peace for our world, our neighborhoods, our friends and families, ourselves. While the view of peace may differ from person to person, itā€™s still an innate desire planted within the human heart.

I am a member of the generation who wanted to teach the whole world to sing in perfect harmony. Perfect, peaceful harmony. But the years have shown us that sharing carbonated beverages is not the recipe for world peace.

This year, 2020, has been one of the most disconcerting ones I can remember. Filled with uncertainty and unrest, people are looking to science, to politics, to financial security hoping to find peace. But they come up empty-handed. Peace eludes them. Mankind wonders if true peace is even possible.

Peace is not passive. Itā€™s not just the absence of fear and unrest. Peace is not a feeling. Itā€™s not simply a dream or a goal to strive for. Peace is real. Peace is personal. Peace was born, grew in wisdom and strength, walked this earth, experienced all the unease and uncertainty we do, met death head on and overcame it. OVERCAME IT ALL.

ā€œFor to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.ā€ Isaiah 9:6-7

Prince of Peace. Take heart. Long before you were born, our heavenly Father knew the peace you would crave and made provision for it. While mankind cries out for world peace, God offers us universal, never ending, everlasting peace through His Son. Peace that transcends our understanding.

During this Christmas season, as you celebrate with your friends and family, rest in the gift of Peace that came to us in the birth of the Christ child.

ā€œPeace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.ā€ John 14:27

Phooey Kerflooey: Three Kids And A Puppy vs The Squirrel Of The Apocalypse by Kristen Joy Wilkes

Kristen says "Once upon a time, our family of three young boys welcomed a princess into our home. A furry princess, a princess who ended up weighing more than they did, was terrified of haybales and bags of chicken feed, and refused to drink out of anything but her own special mug. Our boys were charmed by their puppy princess and asked that I write a story based on her. It took me seven years, but finally I present to you  Phooey Kerflooey ! While our own boys delighted in Princess Leia Freyjaā€™s scaredy-cat antics and princess ways, the boys in the story take a bit longer to appreciate Phooeyā€™s gifts. However, I pray that you will enjoy their journey together as they battle the squirrel of the apocalypse and search for perfect peace amidst a storm of chaos. " And I loved this one. It's gone straight back into the TBR pile. A puppy will fix everything.  A boring new house?  Boring house + puppy = adventure!    An attacking squirrel?  Evil squirrel + puppy =...
