Yellowstone Yondering by Kristen Joy Wilks

Releasing Today - Yellowstone Yondering by Kristen Joy Wilks

I want to start by saying that I had the privilege of an advance reader copy of this book. And it's brilliant.

My review:

I've never been to Yellowstone, in fact all I know of it comes from watching Supervolcano
But having said that I now feel like I've been there. Kristen Wilks does an amazing job of describing the scenery that you are right there with Kayla and Alexander, the sternest park ranger I've ever come across.
The only thing that erupts in this book is tension between a rule obsessed ranger and a woman determined to break those rules so long as she gets her dog back before the bears, hot water and other wild beasts find him first. But it's not all tension, there are a good few giggles along the way.
Hard to put down, this was a book I didn't want to end or put down. A real page turner from start to finish.

Blurb:

When a free-spirited wildlife photographer loses her Scottish terrier in a herd of bison, she sets out to rescue her furbaby before he is devoured. But will she succeed when Yellowstone National Park is chock full of boiling, bubbling, and rampaging hazards (both mammalian and geographical) -- not to mention a rule-obsessed park ranger whose many rescues thwart her efforts to find her poor pup?

They say opposites attract, and when it comes to Kayla Dineen and Ranger Alexander Brandt, no two people have ever been more opposed...or attractive. Old Faithful isn't the only thing making noise at Yellowstone this season.

 Excerpt
"Your careless rescue has probably just sentenced my dog to death." She snarled through gritted teeth, waiting for his face to blanch in horror at his deed. Surely, he would let her go and issue a formal apology.
"I’ll not let you kill yourself right before my eyes. It is my job to prevent such stupidity. You can thank me later after you’ve calmed down."
Kayla gasped at his audacity. She couldn’t even wrap her mind around a name she could use for this man that would be vile enough.
"You’re blaming me? If you had just held onto Ainsley like I asked, no one would be in danger."
"If you had stayed twenty-five yards from the bison as park regulations demand, none of this would have happened."
"The bison came to me. They were two feet away, for goodness sakes. What was I supposed to do, honk my horn and throw a bagel at them to make them back up?"
"No. You stay in your vehicle, such as it was."
"Not without my dog. You are the one who tossed him to the wolves and bison and marmots and all manner of carnivorous wild things."
"Marmots aren’t carnivorous." Ranger Brandt must have caught the dangerous glint in her eye because he hastened to move the conversation away from that bit of charming trivia. "We have to go. Will you return to your vehicle of your own free will or do I need to call in one of the law enforcement rangers to remove you from the park?"
Kayla dug her bare feet into the meadow grass and met his gaze with iron of her own.
His voice lowered to a gentle whisper. "You will not be welcome back if I do."
She looked over her shoulder at the edge of the forest where Ainsley had disappeared. She couldn’t be banned from the park. Ainsley needed her to find him, and soon. She gave the ranger a stiff nod and crunched through the dry grass back toward the road.

Phooey Kerflooey: Three Kids And A Puppy vs The Squirrel Of The Apocalypse by Kristen Joy Wilkes

Kristen says "Once upon a time, our family of three young boys welcomed a princess into our home. A furry princess, a princess who ended up weighing more than they did, was terrified of haybales and bags of chicken feed, and refused to drink out of anything but her own special mug. Our boys were charmed by their puppy princess and asked that I write a story based on her. It took me seven years, but finally I present to you  Phooey Kerflooey ! While our own boys delighted in Princess Leia Freyja’s scaredy-cat antics and princess ways, the boys in the story take a bit longer to appreciate Phooey’s gifts. However, I pray that you will enjoy their journey together as they battle the squirrel of the apocalypse and search for perfect peace amidst a storm of chaos. " And I loved this one. It's gone straight back into the TBR pile. A puppy will fix everything.  A boring new house?  Boring house + puppy = adventure!    An attacking squirrel?  Evil squirrel + puppy =...

Phooey Kerflooey vs The Battle Squirrel by Kristen Joy Wilks

Phooey Kerflooey has finally found a home of her own. Too bad a raging squirrel found it first! Rasputin the squirrel spends his time stealing snacks, pooing on the counters, and biting tender noses. Phooey’s perfect home has become a perfect storm of chaos! Phooey will do anything for her boys. Almost step on the shiny floor. Mostly go potty outside. Bite a baby carrot in half. Maybe two carrots, or even three! The boys want Phooey to chase Rasputin and save the day, but it’s hard when so many scary things stand in her way. If only Phooey had her pink dolly to boost her bravery. Can Phooey find her courage and chase that bad squirrel out of their lives forever? Maybe tomorrow. Or the day after that. For sure by next week. Phooey will be very brave . . . someday. Theme verse: Isaiah 32:18--My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. My review:  Phooey is back in this wonderful story of the puppy v the battle squirrel. Havi...
