By Tamera Lynn Kraft
A Moravian Holiday Story, Circa 1773
During
colonial times, John and Anna settle in an Ohio village to become Moravian
missionaries to the Lenape. When John is called away to help at another
settlement two days before Christmas, he promises he’ll be back by Christmas
Day.
When
he doesn’t show up, Anna works hard to not fear the worst while she provides
her children with a traditional Moravian Christmas.
Through
it all, she discovers a Christmas promise that will give her the peace she
craves.

How I Celebrate Christmas
In my novella, A Christmas Promise, the Moravians were
some of the first people who went all out for Christmas. I can relate to that.
I love the music, the decorations, the movies, and just about everything else
that goes along with Christmas. On Christmas day, we normally have everyone come
to our house. First we open Christmas presents by the tree while Christmas
carols play in the background. Then we’ll have donuts and hot chocolate to tide
us over for our big Christmas feast. No paper plates and processed food for us.
I decorate the table with my best linens and china. My husband makes the beef
roast which we call our roast beast (we got that from the Grinch Who Stole Christmas) and the desserts. He’s a good cook. I
make all the fixings. After dinner, the family has dessert and plays games or
watches a Christmas movie together. I love Christmas.
