IT’S ONLY FICTION…BUT COULD IT HAPPEN?
My new MESSENGERS series is fiction…but could it happen?
Life is perfect in NewAm: no crime; no poverty; no war; no discrimination, but also no God. The Guardians decide where a citizen works, where a citizen lives, and how a citizen thinks, even though the Guardians would deny this.
Life is perfect until the moment you wonder…is there a God?
God will not be defined nor confined by man’s law.
Magdalena Denton is an unlikely messenger. She’s grown up in the godless world of NewAm where even saying the name of Jesus is a crime. But when God has a message, he will always find a MESSENGER.
This story is so very special to me. Near me is a church campground called Round Lake where generations have come to know God as well as be baptized in the lake.
It truly is Holy Ground.
Every year my husband and I camp there for what’s called Family Camp. I remember sitting in the meeting room singing songs and thinking about how I’d love to write a book that captures the spirit of Round Lake.
And so the Messenger series was born or at least the dream of it. It was a long time before any actual words were written.
I had no idea when I started the story that it would take three books to get Magdalena and her friends to Round Lake AKA Jellyfish Lake but it was well worth the time to get them to such a special spot.
Why did I choose to call it Jellyfish Lake? Round Lake is actually one of a few places in the world that has freshwater jellyfish so I thought that would be an apt name for the lake in the Messengers series.
All three books in the series are releasing at the same time so you don’t have to wait for the conclusion of these exciting stories.
MESSENGER (Book 1) Magdalena Denton is an unlikely messenger. She’s grown up in the godless world of NewAmerica where even saying the name of Jesus is a crime. But when God has a message, he will always find a messenger.
UNCITIZEN (Book 2) Magdalena Denton’s bright future is gone. She’s been deemed an UnCitizen because she refuses to deny God. Her new-found faith is challenged as she struggles to stay alive, but God promises to never forsake his children.
EXILE (Book 3) After a daring escape, Magdalena and friends face life in the Empty Lands—even more hostile than imagined. They discover that when you walk in faith, miracles become a reality.
We’d like to believe that something like this could never happen in America, land of the free, but in my lifetime I’ve seen so many of our freedoms slowly being stripped away. A little here, a little there. Not enough to notice until it’s too late.
Yes, it’s fiction, but could it happen?
Reviews:
“By the time they catch me, there will be other messengers out there spreading the word. It will keep growing. The spark will turn into an ember and then the ember will grow into a bonfire.” From Uncitizen
Book one Messenger
Wow. This book is an incredible read, unputdownable. Magdalena works as a care giver in an end of life facility in NewAm - a new America where God is banned. Just speaking His name is treason. When a 'graduating' patient tells Magdalena about Jesus, the course of her life is changed. Forever. Chilling at times, this book is a must read.
Book 2 - Uncitizen
Having been arrested for being a Christian, Magdalena is sent to prison. But God’s plan for her is something different. She’s taken to be a caregiver to the prison manager’s wife. Meanwhile her friends are becoming Messengers in their own way, risking lives and freedom to do so. The book reaches a thrilling ending and leads onto the next. Best line from this book is “By the time they catch me, there will be other messengers out there spreading the word. It will keep growing. The spark will turn into an ember and then the ember will grow into a bonfire.”
Book 3 - Exile
Having escaped from NewAm, Magdalena, Weldon, and their small group begin life as Exiles. They knew it wouldn’t be easy, but they hadn’t expected it to be quite this hard. Until Magdalena receives another visit from God’s Messenger and persuades the others to follow the vision she had.
