Putting In the Work

A Dim Hope by Katie Clark

Thanks so much for having me! Writing a book can be a lot like living life. If we want a certain result, we have to put in the work. Right? If we want a clean house, we have to actually clean it. If we want to take a trip, we need to save the money to pay for it. Want to learn to sew, play the piano, or draw? Yep, you guessed it. Work.

And if we want to get closer to God? That, too, takes work.

Amber, the main character in my story A Dim Hope, doesn’t even know the Keeper. She’s heard of Him, but who can understand this mysterious being? Her sister is gravely injured, yet the next day Amber is sent away to be a servant on a scientific expedition. She is devastated at this turn of events, but the trials cause her to dig deeper for answers about the Keeper.

Amber isn’t afraid to put in the work, and her determination pays off in big ways! You’ll have to read the story to learn more, but it is my hope that I will also be unafraid to put in the work on things that count—in my story worlds, but most of all when it comes to walking with the Keeper!

A Dim Hope releases on September 22nd!

Blurb:

Amber is in trouble. Her sister is dying—and so is her homeland. The Lifeforce stones that power their world are waning, and no one knows why. When the rulers of the land prepare a scientific expedition to study the place where the veins of the Lifeforce run deep, Amber is forced to travel as a servant with the expedition. Though Amber has longed for adventure, her dream always included her sister. Now her only wish is to return home with a cure before it's too late.

Crops are wilting, food is scarce, and sandstorms, avalanches, and earthquakes threaten to doom the expedition. Besides this, there are more sinister forces at work. Quiet arguments and missing supplies lead Amber to believe their efforts are being sabotaged. She uncovers clues, but the real source of their trouble—and hope—lies in places she never expected.

Katie, Congratulations on your new release. The book sounds fascinating. And yes, we have to put the work in. My mom used to say, "Anything worth having is worth working for."

But things are not as they seem and he enlists her help to renovate a homeless shelter. Romance blossoms over paintbrushes and pipes until a career launching opportunity arises. Hillary can chase her dreams, but they might cost her Javier’s heart.       Excerpt Javier cast a shadow over her placemat as he delivered her glass of water. He rounded the table, apparently unaware that the whole family was watching him with interest. When he got to the other side of Mom, Hillary willed him to make eye contact and gave a little wave in greeting. “Hi,” she said. Javier retracted the hand that was lowering Coryn’s water. His lips parted like a curtain to reveal his pearly whites. “Well, if it
