Review - Beautiful Music by Marianne Evans

Beautiful Music by Marianne Evans
Book two of the Sal's Place series.

Escaping the black residue of her past, Callie Phillips finds sanctuary at Queen of Angels Church. The reformed rebel is a middle-school choir teacher by day, and music director on the weekends, mingling with parish members over breakfast at her favorite after-church haunt, Salā€™s Place.
Luke West embraces a devout belief in the sacredness of human life. An EMT, he takes charge of life-and-death situations and acts as guardian for his ten-year-old niece, Dawn West who has a childā€™s zest for life and a God-given gift for music.
When Callie takes the little girl under her wing and becomes a mentor and surrogate mother to Dawn, Callie and Luke are thrown together. Sheā€™s drawn to the dynamic and handsome EMT, but her sullied past threatens any future she and Luke might share. Despite Callieā€™s former life, can Lukeā€™s love teach her thereā€™s nothing Godā€™s mercy canā€™t wipe clean? Will Luke forgive even the bleakest form of sin and desperation in order to embrace the love of an extraordinary woman?

My review:
Laughter and tears...this book from Marianne Evans has it all. And plenty of it. Callie and Luke's story is sure to touch your heart and linger long after the last page is turned. As an EMT, Luke holds all life sacred. Callie's past is dark and scarred. But music and love and a really cute kid called Dawn help Luke to break down the walls. Until Ms. Evans throws in a twist that turns everything on it's head.

Phooey Kerflooey: Three Kids And A Puppy vs The Squirrel Of The Apocalypse by Kristen Joy Wilkes

Kristen says "Once upon a time, our family of three young boys welcomed a princess into our home. A furry princess, a princess who ended up weighing more than they did, was terrified of haybales and bags of chicken feed, and refused to drink out of anything but her own special mug. Our boys were charmed by their puppy princess and asked that I write a story based on her. It took me seven years, but finally I present to you  Phooey Kerflooey ! While our own boys delighted in Princess Leia Freyjaā€™s scaredy-cat antics and princess ways, the boys in the story take a bit longer to appreciate Phooeyā€™s gifts. However, I pray that you will enjoy their journey together as they battle the squirrel of the apocalypse and search for perfect peace amidst a storm of chaos. " And I loved this one. It's gone straight back into the TBR pile. A puppy will fix everything.  A boring new house?  Boring house + puppy = adventure!    An attacking squirrel?  Evil squirrel + puppy =...

But her heart refuses to shun her uncleā€™s young friend and apprentice minister, Jeremiah Dunbar.   Jeremiah Dunbar has never doubted what he would do with his lifeā€”heā€™d follow in his fatherā€™s footsteps as a minister of the Gospel.
