What was the most surprising thing you learned about yourself as you wrote this book? My main character is a helper and she is always "helping" people far more than they really want. She has a habit of purchasing new pets for folks that are impractical to their living circumstances, such as circus donkey's or bald rats. Through the course of the story, she learns that her help really does come from the Lord. While I would never purchase a bald rat for an unwilling pet owner, I discovered that I show others that I care by cooking for them. Strangely, some folks don't care about food and so I realized that just like Shelby and her bald rats, there are times I need to find new ways to show my love. Were you an avid reader as a child?
